A Purpose to Every Gesture
There’s something thats been coming up a lot in dailies lately - something that I never really thought about before - and that’s making sure that every single movement your character makes is there for a reason.
Not sure why I’m noticing it more lately, but it seems like every animator is being challenged to answer for the gestures they create. “Why is he pointing to the ground?” “What’s your reason for having him look to the side?” “Why is he blinking so much?” And so on.
It’s something I never really thought of much before. A lot of times I just hit a pose or tilt the head because I think it looks cool - not really taking into account what the character is really thinking.
So is this new to anyone, or am I just a little slow in this area?
